We are there for you when you need support
Moving to a safer place is a big decision and we're here to help you to understand the options. EQUAL PostOSt offers support to LGBTIQ people in EECA (PostOst) who are facing prosecutions. We understand that each case is unique and will try to find a suitable solution if possible.
How we help
Counseling via chatbot
Getting started with our chatbot is a simple way to get in touch with our team. We can advise you what legal ways there are to emigrate to safer countries and help you navigate your situation. You're not alone, we'll try to figure it out together.
Humanitarian visas
Our team will help with case writing and applying for a humanitarian visa, if this is possible for your situation. Each country has different conditions and a lot depends on your citizenship and provable persecution, but we will outline the options available and support you along the way.
Emergency evacuation
If the situation is critical, we can discuss possible steps for emergency evacuation. It's a complex process, but we'll help you understand what options might be available specifically in your case.
Risk Assessment
We're here to help you understand how serious the situation is and what steps can minimize the risks. The discussion takes place with our team via chatbot - no automation, only real people.
Emergency assistance in the EU
If you are already in Europe and find yourself in an emergency situation, if your life or health is at risk, we will try to help you in any way we can.
Useful leaflets
We have also put together a handout with important information that can be useful in many different situations. We are here to help, and these resources can be your first steps to safety.
Our limitations
We are an independent human rights NPO and unfortunately our resources are limited. Therefore, we can help only to a small extent on the following issues:
- If you need long-term psychological and social support, we can think together with you about which helping organization will provide you with the help you need. But please note that we only help in one-off emergency situations and do not deal with long-term assistance. For frequently asked questions, we create leaflets that we are happy to share with you. Therefore, we would gladly learn about the questions you are facing, either to provide you with an already prepared memo on the topic or to take your request into account for others in the future.
- We are only exceptionally able to provide support on various consular matters by contacting the departmental management at the relevant FCO. We are not connected to, and have little influence over, exactly how a particular consulate works in every city in the world. That said, we would appreciate to learn and record any difficulties for queer people so that we can try to address them in a systematic way.
- We do not respond to non-emergency questions outside of regular working hours, i.e. weekends, holidays, overnight. And if we do, it just means that someone from the team has forgotten to rest again, but to prevent burnout, we are trying not to do it.
- If we have provided some assistance in one case, it does not mean that all others can count on the same assistance. Due to the lack of resources, our independent team of financial commission makes a separate decision on each specific request, taking into account many nuances and the availability or lack of resources in the organization at that particular moment.
Also we are an organization with principles and values that are important to us. We may refuse (further) assistance if:
- You do not share our values
- Disrespectful or rude to our team or our partners who we have engaged to help you
- There are or have been links with the regime, propaganda, state structures of your unsafe country of origin
- If your answer to the question “Whose Crimea?” is any other than “Ukrainian”
- If you support the Putin regime's attack on independent Ukraine
- If in a conversation you can say the phrase “I am not racist (not homophobic, transphobic, anti-Semitic, etc.), but...”
- If you withhold information that is important to your request.
