Chat Communities Coordinator
Position: Chat Communities Coordinator
Engagement type: Volunteer position or internship
Location: Fully remote (CET timezone ±4 hours)
Important Security Requirement
We work with people under political persecution. For security reasons, we cannot collaborate with individuals who live in Russia, Belarus, or Central Asian countries, or who travel to these countries. This is a strict requirement, and no exceptions can be made.
About Us
EQUAL PostOst e.V. is a European human rights organization supporting LGBTQI people from Eastern Europe and Central Asia who are facing political persecution. At present, the majority of our requests come from queer individuals under persecution in Russia.
We work on evacuation and relocation, provide consultations and risk assessments, support humanitarian visa applications to safe countries, offer short-term accommodation, and provide legal and psychological assistance. We also engage in advocacy within the EU and prepare analytical and human rights reports for European institutions.
Our mission is to help people stay safe and find support in new circumstances. We are currently developing a network of chats for Russian-speaking LGBTQI activists across EU countries, and we aim to build them into a living, sustainable, and supportive community.
Your Role
You will be responsible for creating and developing chat communities within the organization. This goes beyond simple administration and focuses on building a community: launching new chats, growing them, shaping the atmosphere, and fostering engagement. Your task is to ensure that these spaces are safe, useful, and active, where people feel comfortable staying and interacting.
You will also build and coordinate a team of moderators, distribute tasks, and develop processes for managing the chats.
Your Responsibilities
• Create and develop chat communities across EU countries
• Populate chats and initiate engagement
• Foster a supportive and safe atmosphere
• Moderate and administer chats
• Attract new participants and support community growth
• Build and coordinate a team of moderators
• Distribute tasks and support the team
• Coordinate with the organization’s team and other areas
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is interested in creating and developing communities. It is important to be able to understand group dynamics, maintain a safe environment, and at the same time build structure.
Our expectations:
• Interest in community management, activism, or working with groups
• Experience moderating chats or communities is a plus
• Ability to communicate calmly and respectfully
• Sensitivity to issues of safety and personal boundaries
• Ability to take responsibility and follow processes through to completion
• Ability to coordinate people and distribute tasks
• Russian as the primary working language
• Interest in LGBTQI issues, migration, and activist communities
This role is unlikely to be a good fit if you are not comfortable working with people or if you prefer individual work without ongoing communication.
What We Offer
• An opportunity to create and develop real activist communities across the EU
• Practical experience in community management and coordination
• Work in a supportive and engaged team
• Flexible format and the possibility to combine with other activities
• A chance to contribute to spaces that provide support and a sense of belonging
Conditions
• Volunteer position or internship
• Flexible schedule and fully remote format
• Level of involvement to be agreed
• Start date: May 2026
